Compton Care

At DW Windows, we regularly carry out charity work to support the local community. Recently, our Managing Director, Dave Walters completed a gruelling marathon to help raise money for Compton Care.

Compton Care is an organisation that specialises in helping people with complex or incurable conditions. They set out to ensure that those afflicted can still enjoy life to the full. It’s their commitment and passion that drove one man to set a goal of raising £20,000 in exchange for the quality care his late father received from the hospice.

Brendon Turner, son of the late MP, Dennis Turner, decided to give back to Compton Care as a show of gratitude for the services they’d provided his father. Brendon set up multiple charity events like car washes and golf days, all in the lead-up to the main event on the 21st of July: The Lord Bilston Big Challenge 2018. The challenge itself was a gruelling 22-hour marathon in which Brendon and 17 other brave volunteers cycled roughly 120 miles on tandem bikes from Swansea all the way to the Compton Care hospice located in Wolverhampton. There was also an 8-mile hike where they carried 2 of the staff from Compton Care on stretchers over the Brecon Beacons as well as a 6-mile canoeing session with the same staff on-board.

Great work everyone

DW Windows’ very own Dave Walters took on this huge challenge and successfully finished it along with the 17 other riders in a total of 25 hours. Thankfully everybody made it through the marathon unscathed. The team set off from Swansea at 00.30 on the Saturday morning and arrived back to a great reception at 01.30 in the early hours of Sunday the 22nd of July. On Brendon’s JustGiving page alone, £6,563.54 was raised, which is something everybody involved should be proud of.

DW Windows is proud to have been a part of this incredible event as it’s important that people support these sorts of organisations as much as possible. Compton Care and many other similar groups don’t charge a penny for their services and thus rely entirely on the support of the public so charity events like the Lord Bilston Big Challenge go a long way to help them.
