DW Windows’ CEO Dave Walters has launched an initiative to deliver vital supplies to Ukrainian refugees residing in Poland.
We were delighted that two of our partners were able to lend us their vans to help us carry out this delivery mission for the Help Ukraine appeal. Our fabricator, Central Window Systems, kindly lent us a vehicle, as did the contract packing company Mixtio.
The vans, containing much-needed food, medical supplies, and a four-man delivery team, set off towards Poland at 4am on Monday 21st March. At the time of writing, they were in the Netherlands, having already crossed the channel and passed through France and Belgium.
Dave has been collecting donations from a local Asda and his three DW Windows showrooms. He has also set up a JustGiving page to raise funds to help buy further provisions when he’s out there. We’re immensely proud to confirm that he has currently raised over £5,000 and counting.
The former Royal Marine and ex-firefighter, who has contacts in Krakow in Poland, explained his reason for organising the initiative.
“I want to do as much as I can for the Ukrainian refugees, centres and Polish organisations,” said Dave, who will spend a week out there.
“I’m told they’re inundated with clothes but need other provisions, so both vans are full of dry foods, sanitary products, baby food, nappies and medical supplies.
“I can only fit so much in, so while I’m there I’ll spend donations to buy further supplies from supermarkets to give to refugee camps and any others who need them, and if I can transport people to safety when I’m there, I will.
“I’d like to say a massive thanks to Central Window Systems’ Martyn Elwell and Gary Morton for kindly donating their van for the trip, and I’d also like to thank everyone who has supported us and donated so far.”
Central’s Sales and Marketing Director Martyn Elwell commented: “What Dave is doing is brilliant and we wanted to get involved and show our support, and we were delighted to donate the use of one of our vans to the cause.
“DW Windows are a valued customer, and we’d like to wish Dave every success out in Poland and a safe trip back.”
